Envases’ ECOPET Recycling Plant

ECOPET is our recycling plant located in Uruguay. Envases established ECOPET in response to national regulations requiring PET containers to include at least 40% recycled content.

On 18 hectares with 10,000 square meters of facilities, ECOPET in Uruguay stores up to 1,800 tons of used PET containers and transforms them through our advanced recycling process.

ECOPET produces 2.5 billion CristalPet preforms annually. Our solar power plant, the largest installation in Uruguay, partially powers the facility and delivers 2.4 MW.

The plant employs 40 people who contribute to its operations, combining industry experience with new talent to drive innovation and excellence.

In 2024, we introduced a new technology in the ECOPET plant in Uruguay. It uses high-temperature vacuum systems to remove moisture and dust from flakes. Afterward, we melt, homogenize, and filter them to eliminate residual contamination.

We use the resulting recycled resin at 100% purity or blend it with virgin resin to meet different product specifications. Our teams test all materials rigorously to ensure compliance with international standards.

We are proud that ECOPET is the only plant in Uruguay capable of recycling 100% of the PET containers generated in our country into food-grade recycled resin (rPET), which will allow us to manufacture new bottles.

Environmental and Social Commitment

EcoPet is more than a recycling facility; it is part of a broader commitment to environmental responsibility and social inclusion. Our operations actively create jobs and raise environmental awareness.

Through educational talks at schools and companies, and by promoting PET recycling across communities, we aim to foster a culture of sustainability.

Our network of “Green Points” allows individuals to responsibly dispose of PET containers from both work and home, with the assurance that EcoPet will manage their recycling with integrity.

ECOPET stands as a model of circular economy in action, where innovation, environmental care, and community impact go hand in hand.
