United in a Greener Future; Envases Europe will reduce its CO2 emission with 42% before 2030.
Envases Europe will reduce its CO2 emission with 42% before 2030.
We used to talk about the climate crisis as something that might happen in some distant future, but suddenly the future is yesterday and time is a luxury we don’t have. At Envases we recognize this reality and take our responsibility for a greener future seriously. This commitment is exemplified by our approval to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), a crucial milestone in our sustainability journey.
The Significance of a Science Based Target
The SBTi is a global, independent initiative, which allows companies to set ambitious goals for reducing CO2 emissions that are in line with the latest climate science. This means that every step we take will be in accordance with scientific recommendations. By setting a science based target, we acknowledge our responsibility as a significant contributor to climate change. The earth temperature has already risen 1,1 degrees Celsius from the pre-industrial level, and earlier this year, the UN sent out a red alert telling us to act now, if we are to stay below 1,5.
The Power of a United Front
Does it all seem very doomsday and glass half-empty? That’s because it is. Celebration and climate don't normally go hand-in-hand. However, we are proud to have set some ambitious targets that are now approved by the Science Based Target initiative. And we are not alone. There are currently 6437 companies (as of November 6th, 2023) who have committed to this global initiative. “These companies are leading the way. However, we need every company, in every sector, to join them. The future of our planet depends on this,” states SBTi on their website.
And indeed we need to stand united if we are to have a chance against climate change. At Envases, we firmly believe that the path to a sustainable future is one we must walk together. We must be united in a greener future.
